249-253 Long Lane

249-253 Long Lane is located on the former site of internationally renowned Bermondsey Antiques Market. This had the clandestine reputation of a ‘Market Ouvert’ where goods of ‘unknown’ providence could be legally sold between the hours of sunset and sunrise. This colourful loophole was closed in 1995 and when the market was relocated to Bermondsey Square the run down site became available for development. Hampson Williams obtained planning permission for this four storey mixed use development with residential access and lift to the rear. Traditional materials and punched openings were used to reflect the local Victorian warehouses that are common in this part of London.
